Earl B. McKinley, 1894-1938, was Professor of Bacteriology and Dean of George Washington University School of Medicine. Colonel Bailey K. Ashford, 1873-1934, graduate from Georgetown University Medical School in 1896. He then entered on a career in the U.S. Army Medical Corps. While stationed in Puerto Rico, Ashford was the first to describe and successfully treat North American hookworm in 1899.
